Mind Blasting

So I watched Avatar last night. I haven’t been following up with Avatar updates on the net, so I forgot that it was actually coming out around this time. Few of my friends have seen it, and all I’ve been hearing is good stuff about the visual and bad stuff about the length of the film. But this was James, and I wasn’t going to let anything judge it for me until I’ve actually seen it.
And so I sat through almost three hours, watching it.. I’ve got to say, I have no words in my vocabulary good or complex enough to exactly explain what I felt throughout. The only thing I was questioning myself was how the hell did these people manage to pull this off.
There’s something in this film that has that thing.. I don’t know how to explain it but one of the characters mentioned something about the flow of energy. I think that describes what this movie has, a really good flow of visual and emotional energy that comes at the right place at the right time. Some films, no matter how intellectual, deep, or surreal they seem to be, lack that special something that leaves a mark on us. For me, watching this movie left me the same emotions I had when watching Independence Day as a kid.. It’s that state of awe and you kind of feel like if that movie was made for a specific audience, you were definitely one of them.
VFX wise, too crazy. They beautifully designed Pandora and the Na’vi. Love that handy-cam feel finally applied to 3D successfully. I love the realistic facial expressions, and was Final Fantasy the only flick close enough to achieving it all this time?
Definitely made my weekend!!
